Seismic Time‐Lapse Monitoring of Near‐Surface Microbubble Water Injection by Full Waveform Inversion

چکیده
Abstract Monitoring time‐lapse changes in subsurface physical properties of the near‐surface critical zone is increasingly important with respect to climate change, environmental conservation/remediation, geohazard mitigation, and geotechnical engineering activities. Innovative controlled‐source cross‐well seismic monitoring surveys combined full waveform inversion analysis enable us map small highly localized by repeatedly scanning between borehole sensors at depth. In Kanto Basin, Japan, we successfully monitor dynamic transient fluid‐flow effects injection microbubble water, which interest for soil contamination remediation preventing earthquake liquefaction. The fluid migration detected observing P‐wave velocity (∼1%) within a very thin (∼1 m) sediment layer depth ∼25 m. injected water differential (temperature) observed follow geological hydrologic preferential paths rather than diffusing equally all directions away from well.

Full waveform inversion of crosswell seismic data using automatic differentiation
Full waveform inversion (FWI) is an effective and efficient data-fitting technique that has been widely used to produce accurate estimation of model parameters in Geophysics. The efficiency and accuracy of FWI are determined by the three main components: numerical solution for forward problem, gradient calculation and model update which usually involves the optimization method. The success of t...
متن کاملFull waveform seismic inversion using a distributed system of computers
The aim of seismic waveform inversion is to estimate the elastic properties of the Earth’s subsurface layers from recordings of seismic waveform data. This is usually accomplished by using constrained optimization often based on very simplistic assumptions. Full waveform inversion uses a more accurate wave propagation model but is extremely difficult to use for routine analysis and interpretati...

متن کاملImage-guided full waveform inversion
Multiple problems, including high computational cost, spurious local minima, and solutions with no geologic sense, have prevented widespread application of full waveform inversion (FWI), especially FWI of seismic reflections. These problems are fundamentally related to a large number of model parameters and to the absence of low frequencies in recorded seismograms. Instead of inverting for all ...
